Update 24th Feb 2010

Last Wednesday’s Splash for the juniors had one fairly long race followed by a quickie.

Kyran Bosazza was the overall winner, followed by Justin Stoker and then Sheldon Vokes, Luke Bosazza and Marco le Grange. Luke sailed a Mirror with Ben Irwin as crew. The others were all in 0-9rs. Overall in the Splash Kyran is now leading on 43 points, with Luke second on 38.

Four more races to go before it gets dark too early for Wednesday afternoon racing.

The Lifestyle Pursuit Race last Saturday was supposed to be one of THE events on our calendar, and I certainly enjoyed a terrific sail in a pretty strong breeze. BUT where, oh where, were the sailors? Two Hobies, one Sonnet, one Finn, and two Lasers is not something to write home about, nor is it worth the trouble that is taken on setting the various starting times and the cumbersome procedures on the bridge. And then the two Lasers came to grief with broken/torn gear, leaving just four boats. Pat Tarboton won by a good margin, Chick Ramsay managed to just get ahead of Joop Weddepohl and Rob Clark was fourth. The kids fielded two 0-9rs, two Oppies and a Mirror. Jason Cooke in an Oppie won that one, followed by Sima Titi’s Oppie, Justin Stoker’s 0-9r and Luke and Kyran Bosazza’s Mirror didn’t manage to overtake the slower boats.

Pam Golding came across with some interesting li’l prizes and it was nice to have a sponsor for once.

But I, for one, would like to know what exactly gets you guys onto the water and what, apparently, does not. What do you want for next season’s calendar???

The Splash this Wednesday the 24th will see Ian Price on the Bridge and Barry Giggins on rescue.

Then the Founders Trophy on Saturday the 27th will start at the normal time of 14h30 as it is a beautiful high tide of 1.95m at 15h28. We may well be able to go up the Ashmead Channel more than once and have a nice long race. Neil Metelerkamp does the bridge and Adrian Wilson-Forbes is on rescue (and buoy laying!). Do try and make the effort to come racing!

There will be no junior racing at KYC that Saturday as all our juniors should be at the Southern Cape Inter Schools Regatta at George Lakes Yacht Club over the weekend of 27th – 28th February. The Notice of Race for that one is on the Notice Board. This is lots of fun for the kids, and also for the parents, and excellent training!
