Kynsna Keelboat Racing Rules

Starts will be controlled from the Bridge

The Course

Generally all buoys must be passed on your port side. In the case where a buoy is to be passed on the starboard side the buoy number will be marked with an underline on the notice board. We will start deducting penalty points for incorrectly sailed courses as from 8th May.

Start Procedure

5 minutes before start a siren will be sounded and a coloured cone will be hoisted – generally orange.
4 minutes before start a siren will be sounded and the “P” flag hoisted.
1 minute before start a siren will be sounded and the “P” flag lowered.
At start a siren will be sounded and the coloured cone will be lowered.

Exceptions

If a boat crosses the start line before the start a recall “X” flag will be hoisted plus a single blast on the siren will be sounded.
If during the race the conditions require that the course be modified then a siren will be sounded twice and the “S” flag hoisted. Ideally boats sailing the course should be tuned to VHF channel 10 to enable the course revisions to be communicated. We will also endeavour to have a committee boat in attendance to communicate course changes to the fleet.
If during the race it is decided to abandon the race then a siren will be sounded three times and the “N” flag hoisted
